Static stretching has been shown to slightly decrease performance so dynamic stretching may work best before exercise and then perform static stretches afterwards to improve flexibility. However there are a lot of myths and beliefs about stretching out there. Have a read of this article for more information on both types of stretching. There is of course the placebo effect so if you feel stretches are keeping you ‘loose’ and injury free then by all means, continue to do them.
