Derek Stenson BSc Applied Science and Physical Therapy
Midlands Physical Therapy is run by Derek Stenson. Derek established the clinic in 2014 and it has since moved to and added new locations with a clinic in Moate and also in Athlone.
Derek originally started off treating from a spare room in his house as an ITEC sports therapist in 2009 however he found that he was getting the results he wanted with some of the more complex injuries and pain patients he was seeing. So he decided to expand his skills and knowledge and went on to complete a degree course in physical therapy with The Irish Institute of Physical therapy in Dublin. He has since undertaken numerous add on courses and has been fortunate enough to work and learn from some of the leading physio’s in the UK over the past 18 months.
At the clinic Derek uses a structured approach to looking at peoples injuries and pain and NEVER just focuses on the area that’s sore. “I like to find the true driver of the problem and look at restoring the function here, otherwise the area that is painful will never get better.”
Derek is a keen sportsman and has been working as a professional tennis coach for 12 years and still coaches part time, when he is not busy in the clinic. He has worked with athletes from GAA and rugby to recreational runners
He is also a keen runner himself and a fan of endurance events having completed two marathons and a number of cycling events and cross country adventure races.
