Find Out How You Can Ease That Achy, Sore and Annoying Neck Pain Without Relying On Painkillers

When it comes to living with Neck and Shoulder Pain, everybody we see wants to know:

“Why is this happening to me?”…

“Why am I still suffering with neck and shoulder pain after putting up with it for 6 months – sometimes more?”…

Most people think that when they get Neck or Shoulder Pain, the pain is going to go away on its own. That they’ll wake up one morning and like “magic”, it’ll be as if it never happened… But then 6 months later you’re still living with nagging pain even worse than it was when it came on.

Does That Sound Like You?

Another scenario we see all the time in our physio clinic is when people go to the Doctors, and the Doctor tells them to rest and “try these painkillers” to “see how it goes” – but then 6 weeks later, they end up going back to the same Doctor again because it hasn’t got any better, only to be given ANOTHER prescription of even stronger pills.

It Can Be Very Confusing

You be left confused and wondering what this pain in my neck means and you might told different things by doctors or other therapists about what your pain is. Is it coming from my neck or is it coming from my shoulder? Do I need to rest my neck or my shoulders? Often when people are left with decisions and confusion like this, they end up doing nothing and the problem ends up getting worse.

If You’re Currently Living With Neck And Or Shoulder Pain, Here’s 7 More Reasons Why It Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

  • 1. You thought it would go away on it’s own – but it didn’t
  • 2. You went to the Doctor who told you to rest and take painkillers – but the pills did nothing to help, and as soon as they wore off Neck and Shoulder Pain struck again.
  • 3. A family member, or friend, told you that everybody gets Neck and Shoulder pain as they get older, so you just accepted it

    4. You seeked help from other Healthcare Professionals or a Physio in the past, but nothing they said or did seemed to help

    5. You’ve tried using things like heat pads or TENS but they’ve done nothing to help make the pain better

    6. You thought it would be a good idea to rest because your Neck or Shoulder pain was so bad, but it still irritates you daily

    7. You decided to get a few “massages” hoping that would fix the pain, but all they did was feel nice and relaxing, and didn’t do anything to fix it long term…

What can we do to help?

This is another question we often get asked by people. Here are some of the things that we do to help people with neck and shoulder pain.

  1. Find out WHAT IS CAUSING the pain. By listening to your story of how the pain came about by performing a assessment, we can figure out what is causing your problem.
  2. Explain a STEP BY STEP PLAN to solve your neck problem. We use a step by step plan to help people gt tout of pain and back to doing the things they love to do, without the pain returning.
  3. Give you back CONTROL of Your Body. We will give you the strategies and movements to enable to maintain activity, maintain fitness and maintain control of your body so you don’t need to reply on painkillers and constant trips to the GP.
  4. Help you MAKE A DECISION. So many people spend so long wondering what to do about their pain and they stop doing activities and exercise because they are afraid they will cause more damage. We will take away this fear and indecision by explaining what your problem is and how to ease it.

Here Are Some Of The Questions We Commonly Get Asked about Neck Pain?

Do I need to have an MRI scan for my neck pain?

In short, no. There is a lot of information that I can gather from having a chat with you and then doing an assessment to see where your movements are restricted, what type of pain your getting and what the structures around your neck feel like.

MRIs are useful if you have been in a traumatic accident or if you have tried a number of treatment options first and your doctor or therapist advice’s you to go for a scan to see what may be casuing you symptoms

I’ve been told that I have arthritis in my neck. Can anything be done?

Arthritis is where there is wear and tear between the  bones and there is a change to the structure of the bone. While physical therapy cannot help this it can improve the symptoms you feel and help you return to an active and healthy  life.

I can reduce the sensitivity around tissues in your neck which can greatly improve your movement and reduce pain. Couple this with bespoke movement exercises and the symptoms around your neck can be greatly improved

I’ve been told there is something wrong with my discs. Can you help?

Is very common for people to be told that they may have disc trouble. In fact, I think its a very easy way for some medical professionals or therapists to give a lazy diagnosis and not try to fully help the person.

The truth is that most of us will have some disc issues once your over the age of 25, however this does not have to mean that you will be suffer with neck pain. Remember pain is not a good indicator of damage. There are many ligaments and muscles around your neck that can give you very painful sensations.

I suffer a lot with headaches. Can Physical Therapy help this?

The answer is yes, but it also depends on the type of headache. Tension headaches are very treatable as they are more often related to soft tissue imbalances. Migraines can be a different story as they can have a very distinct trigger that sets them off, like smells, certain foods etc. However, these can still be helped through advice, movement and lifestyle changes. Once I have assessed you, talked to you and listened to your story I will explain all this and how i can help you.
