If you have never been to my clinic or for any physiotherapy treatment before, you may be wondering what will happen in your initial assessment.
So here are the answer to some questions that we have encountered before to help you feel at ease when you come in for your session.
What Should I Wear?
In order to assess and find out the source of your problem, you will be asked to do some movements. Also, the therapist may need to visibly see the injured and surrounding areas and may need to perform some hands on treatment.
Hands on treatment can be performed through light clothing but ideally, directly onto the skin works best.
Therefore, clothes that are loose fitting and easy to move in are preferable. If your problem is from the waist down, then a pair of shorts to change into would be ideal or leggings will be fine also.
It’s a problem from the waist up men will be asked to remove their shirt, provided they are happy to do so.
For ladies, if you have a shoulder, neck or back problem, a sports top or vest would be ideal so that your therapist can see and work around the area.
We will always explain what will happen and ask if you happy to proceed before any assessment or treatment.
What Is Not Ideal To Wear. 🛑
Tight fitting clothes can be restrictive and be difficult to assess you movements in. Clothes like jeans and leather trousers are not the easiest to assess with.
How Long Will The Appointment Last?
Your Initial Assessment with your physio will last 40 minutes.
All follow up appointments will last 35 minutes.
Please allow an extra few minutes beforehand to get here on time so you are not in a rush to get here.
Also, please have your pre assessment form completed as this can save some time in the assessment. You will have received this by email when you booked your appointment
Is There Parking Available Close By?
Yes, there is free parking available on the street right outside the clinic for up to a three hour duration. There is normally plenty of parking available close by but it can get busy around 4pm with the school traffic so do allow for this if you appointment is at this time.
If the street happens to be very busy there is a large free carpark situated 50 metres down the road at the Community Hall
How many treatment sessions will I need?
This can be difficult to say before we see you and carry out an assessment.
It will depend on a few things such as:
1 – The nature of your pain or injury
2 – Your current fitness level
3 – What you need and want to be able to do confidently.
4 – The length of time you have had the problem.
5 – How well you stick to the treatment plan and do your exercises.
6- Whether you want to get a lasting solution to the problem or whether you want a short term solution where you get some pain relief.
After your assessment, your physio will explain the problem to you and why they believe it has happened. They will get a clear understanding on what you want to get back to and then explain the plan of what is needed to help get you there. Based on this they will then give an approximate number of the amount of sessions that are needed to achieve this.
Will I Be Sore Afterwards?
This again, can depend on the nature of your pain or injury. Some people can be sore afterwards and some people will feel great. If you are in a lot of pain when you come in, then some of the movements and treatment may cause a level of painful.
Therefore, you feel sore afterwards and sometimes it may take 24 hours to notice the benefits and reduction in symptoms. However, any excessive tenderness normally eases within 24 hours.
Please know however, that everyone is different and your physio will tailor the treatment based on your injury and your needs. They will always check in with you to see if you are comfortable and will tailor the treatment accordingly.
How Do I Pay For My Treatment
You can pay with either cash or card. The fee for Initial Assessment is 65 euro. If you a number of treatments afterwards you do have the option to pay for a package where you pay for a number of sessions upfront. This allows you to get the same treatment at a reduced rate.
